9/16 Hack RVA

This night was an absolute blur. I am still figuring out how to present meaningful, creative discussion and work that inspires us; I organized an exhaustive body of work for you all to witness. We all did the damn thing that night.

Hannah invited us to Hack RVA to show us a collaborative space for makers, with everything from 3-D printers to woodworking machines. If you can imagine it, you can make it at Hack RVA. We can’t thank you enough for your hospitality and effort, Hannah!

Design Friend Spotlight:

Hannah Patterson-Sanford

Hannah presented a wonderful body of work that showed immense depth, thoughtfulness, and growth. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Hannah’s journey as a designer and artist. She brings immeasurable energy and enthusiasm to every project, reminding me of some of the more joyful times in my early career before the soot and dust settled from decades of demolished ideas.

ALEBRIJES:
CREATURES OF A DREAM WORLD

Hannah walked us through the process and inspiration behind the exhibit's design and branding, inspired by Pedro Linares's 1930s work featuring vibrant imaginary creatures composed of physical and spiritual elements.

Inspiration and initial concepts. Though unchosen, we found the typographic forms on the left very well done.

Final graphic language and branding for the exhibit.

Lewis Ginter Design Collateral

Hannah walked us through an impressive number of deliverables as part of her duties and the official design of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Everything from signage to event invites and wayfinding.

Freelance

Hannah showed us some of her side passion projects and how she enters local contests to diversify her work and add tools to her belt. There is no silver bullet in building a design career (unless you're funded by a mysterious family member with companies all over the planet and maybe the universe); you have to put in the work and do the work you want to do. She is doing just that, but at a pace not even the most inspired individuals can keep up with. Hannah, you did a great job of both inspiring us and making us feel bad for not creating hard enough!
